GSTR-2B reconciliation in ERPNext
Before you claim input tax credit, check it against what your suppliers have filed. GSTR-2B is the statement that shows it. This guide explains the process and where ERPNext helps.

What GSTR-2B is
GSTR-2B is an auto-drafted statement of input tax credit, generated for each tax period from the returns your suppliers file. It is the reference most businesses use to decide the credit they claim in their return.
Why reconcile
- Claim credit you are entitled to, and not more.
- Find suppliers who have not filed or have filed with errors.
- Catch invoices recorded in your books but missing from 2B.
- Catch invoices in 2B that you have not booked.
The process
- Get GSTR-2B for the period.
- Match each invoice with your purchase invoices by supplier GSTIN, invoice number, date and tax amounts.
- List the exceptions: missing, mismatched or unbooked.
- Follow up with suppliers on the exceptions.
- Claim credit in line with the rules, and carry unmatched items to the next period where appropriate.
Common exceptions
- Invoice number or date typed differently.
- Tax amount differs by a small amount.
- Credit notes not reflected.
- Invoices under reverse charge.
- Supplier filed in a later period.
Where ERPNext helps
The India Compliance app for ERPNext includes a Purchase Reconciliation Tool in the GST India workspace. You choose a period and the return, and it compares the data from the GST portal with your purchase invoices and highlights matches and differences. You still review the exceptions and decide the action.
