Per Microsoft's lifecycle policy:
- Every NAV version has already lost mainstream support. NAV 2018, the last release, lost it in January 2023.
- NAV 2015 lost extended support in January 2025.
- NAV 2016 has been fully out of support since April 2026.
- NAV 2017 ends in January 2027, NAV 2018 in January 2028.
After those dates there are no security updates, no fixes, and no help from Microsoft. If you are on NAV 2016 or older, you are already on your own.
What that means in practice
Three things. Security: an ERP without security updates is an open door into your customer data and your books. Compliance: a system that cannot be updated leaves you with documentation you cannot defend. And integrations: your webshop, shipping and banking keep evolving, your NAV does not.
Many companies have stretched the problem with an upgrade to NAV 2018. That buys time, not a future.
Business Central: the obvious answer with a bill attached
Microsoft's own answer is Business Central, and it is a good system. But it is priced per user. Essentials runs around DKK 550 per user per month at list price, and Premium costs more.
For a 20-user company that is roughly DKK 11,000 every month, forever, and it grows every time you hire. On top sits the migration project itself, usually a heavy consulting engagement.
It is not a bad offer. It is just the only one most NAV companies ever get shown.
The third option: managed ERPNext
